South Derbyshire Awards 2020

14 February 2020

The inaugural ceremony of the South Derbyshire Awards was held on Friday 7 February at Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd’s Burnaston Hall. The South Derbyshire Awards thank those across South Derbyshire who are quietly committing their time to make a difference to the lives of the people who live in the district.

A total of 118 nominations were submitted across the 11 categories, with 22 finalists being invited to the ceremony to find out who would be crowned winner of each award. Councillor David Muller, Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council who attended the awards said:

“We are extremely fortunate in South Derbyshire that so many people give up their own time to help, support and benefit those around them. To be invited along to an event like the South Derbyshire Awards, which gives back to these invaluable individuals, is fantastic and I would like to again pass on my congratulations and thanks to all the worthy finalists.

This event is also a true celebration of the partnership work which takes place within the district, with South Derbyshire CVS, Active South Derbyshire and South Derbyshire District Council coming together to combine three previous events into one. I am sure that all involved are already looking forward to the 2021 awards.”

Megan Neave a para-swimmer from Newhall who is currently on the British Para Swimming World Class Potential Programme and the Swim England Development Squad and won the Disabled Sportsperson of the Year category said:

“It’s really great to know you have support and recognition from your local area.  I feel very privileged to receive the Disabled Sportsperson of the Year award and look forward to continuing to represent South Derbyshire in competitions moving forward.”
