Counting down to the Funding Fair!

South Derbyshire CVS is organising a Funding Fair on 22 October at Sharpe's Pottery Museum.

This is a major event not to be missed by local voluntary groups and people working in the community. A wide range of funding organisations will be present to meet a range of needs.

So far confirmed are Derbyshire Community Foundation, South Derbyshire District Council, Lloyds TSB Foundation and Charity Bank

Derbyshire Compact Awards Scheme

Compact week 2007 saw the launch of the inaugural Derbyshire COMPACT awards. The awards aim to highlight and reward best practice in a COMPACT way of working in Derbyshire.

There are three awards categories covering best practice in:

Communicating the Compact
For example:

• Raising awareness and championing a Compact way of working with staff, volunteers and decision-makers at all levels
• Excellence in promoting sign up to the Compact
• Reaching out to new groups and organisations in both sectors.

Compact development
For example:

• Excellence in evaluating the Compact and its impact
• Activities to integrate / mainstream the Compact into Local Strategic Partnerships, Local Area Agreements, Children's Trusts, Social and Health Care Commissioning bodies and other local, regional or national partnerships bodies;
• Resourcing compact work.

Compact implementation
For example:

• Excellence in implementing the county wide action plan
• Exemplary consultation and involvement processes
• Best practice in funding and procurement
• Good practice in conflict avoidance/ resolution.

Nominations are invited from individuals and groups working within both the public and voluntary and community sectors who can demonstrate excellence in a Compact way of working.

In addition to these categories there will be a 'special' award presented to the individual or organisation who has undertaken what is deemed to have been particularly significant work in relation to the Compact during the year.

The COMPACT awards are being organised by the Derbyshire COMPACT Review Group. Decisions will be made in October 2008 and the awards will be presented in Compact week 2008.

The activities should have taken place between September 2007 and August 2008. The closing date for nominations is September 1st 2008.

Appeal for Volunteer Drivers

Here at CVS we are in desperate need of more drivers for our Social Car Scheme due to an increased interest in the service.

The scheme helps people who are unable to use public transport for whatever reason. Volunteer drivers could find themselves taking a client to a day centre, doctor's surgery, hospital appointment or social group. Drivers simply need a bit of spare time and a vehicle which they can use. There are no minimum hours and the scheme can work around the drivers other commitments. Expenses are paid to the driver at 40p per mile.

Existing drivers get a great deal of satisfaction from offering their time, as most clients are very isolated and very appreciative of the service.
